ABOUT ABOUT

The French Jewish Experience on The Silver Screen

Dr. Eric Goldman

Mondays, April 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18, June 1

6:15 – 9:00 PM

Some of France’s most celebrated filmmakers have been Jews who trained their lenses on the complexities of life in their community. Claude Berri, Diane Kurys, Claude Lelouch and Gerard Oury built stories around anti-Semitism, the Nazi occupation, the courage of their Christian countrymen and Arab-Jewish relations.

This course will focus on how these directors portrayed the realities of French Jews through the screening of some of their most famous films, including The Mad Adventures of Rabbi JacobFor a WomanLittle Jerusalem and They Are Everywhere

*Movies will be screened in segments with breaks - students are recommended to watch the full film on their own.
