Losing Our Humanity: An Evening with Cate Blanchett and the Stateless Team
Thursday, July 23

Free
Seven years ago two-time Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett was having a conversation in her kitchen with producer Elise McCready about the global refugee crisis and how government systems in place fail the most vulnerable. Inspired by that conversation, they put together Stateless, a powerful and harrowing 6-part series, now streaming on Netflix, about the intertwining stories of four people caught up in the Australian border control system. Partially inspired by the scandal involving Australian Cornelia Rau’s unlawful detention, Blanchett brought her knowledge as a global Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees into this series which forces us to look at the price refugees pay and the dangers of turning a blind eye.
Hear about the series and the refugee crisis in discussion with:
Cate Blanchett, producer and star (Pat Masters, the co-leader of a cult-like group)
Fayssal Bazzi, star (Ameer, a refugee from Afghanistan)
Jai Courtney, star (Cam Sanford, a detention center guard)
Yvonne Strahovski, star (Sofie Werner, an Australian who erroneously ends up labeled a refugee)
Elise McCready, producer
Tony Ayres, producer
Moderated by Jessica Shaw, host of EW Live on SiriusXM Stars Channel
