(Winter Session)
Barbara C. Freedman Artists’ Beit Midrash
Tobi Kahn & Rabba Wendy Amsellem
This class, co-led by an artist and a rabbi, is a community of artists who analyze, interrogate and create. In the first hour, we will examine the relevant text to see how, as artists, we can interpret the narratives visually. In the second, we will critique the art created by the participants.
Mondays, January 27, February 3, 10, 24, March 2, 16
7:00 – 9:00 PM
THE CROWN: ESTHER, VASHTI AND THE PURSUIT OF POWER
Who is Esther? A young girl or a mature woman? Determined or pliable? Why does King Ahashverosh find her enchanting? What is her connection to Vashti, the former queen? We will study the relevant midrashim and Talmudic narratives that add texture to the biblical narrative.
This class is sponsored by Nancy, David and Jonathan Goldhill, in memory of their mother Barbara C. Freedman
