Dr. Diane M. Sharon: Ancient Egypt in Genesis - Myth and History
Mondays 12:00 – 1:30 PM
November 4, 18, 25, December 2, 9, 16
The relationship between Israel and Egypt goes back to the very origins of the Hebrews in the Bible: Abraham, father of the Jewish people, flees there during a famine in Canaan and passes off his wife, Sarah, as his sister — and his troubled interaction with the Pharaoh begins an ambivalent, often tempestuous, relationship between the Hebrews and the Land of Egypt.
We will examine the archaeological, theological and literary evidence to support and/or refute accounts of Egypt in Genesis, from Abraham and Sarah to the death of Joseph.
