The Italians laid claim to opera for two centuries . . . and then came the German composers. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Carl Maria von Weber, Richard Wagner.
This course will examine their pivotal works with attention to a missing link, Jewish composer Giacomo Meyerbeer, whose grand operas influenced Verdi, Wagner and others.
