Israeli Filmmakers Look Within
Mondays, 6:15 – 9:00 PM
October 23, 30, November 6, 13, 20, 27
OFFERED IN-PERSON
As Israel celebrates its 75th anniversary, the country is looking closely inward at its legacy — and what might be done better at this critical juncture in its history. Israel’s filmmakers are turning their lenses on many of those concerns: Palestinian-Israeli relations, women’s role in society, LGBTQ+ rights, the absorption of immigrants, the impact of the Shoah, religious radicalism and ultra-nationalism. This course will explore how some of Israel’s finest filmmakers — Gila Almagor, Michal Aviad, Joseph Cedar, Eytan Fox, Avi Nesher and Eran Riklis — have explored those challenges.
Portions of the films will be shown during the course with pauses for discussion.
