For 2,000 years, Jews have been reviled and persecuted for rejecting Jesus and blaspheming Christ. Throughout that history, Jesus was, for many Jews, anathema, relegated to the shadows of Jewish discourse, even smeared in an early medieval counter-gospel. Yet over time, such views have softened until today we read about Rabbi Jesus (Bruce Chilton) and Kosher Jesus (Shmuley Boteach). In this course, we will trace the arc of the Jewish understanding of Jesus from the birth of Christianity to contemporary ecumenism.
